The dimension and performance of a typical x-band rectangular waveguide can be found in most EM text books. We use GEMS to simulate this waveguide with either TE or TM mode excitation. The outputs from GEMS package are mode voltage and current, and the user can use the formula built in the GEMS result display module to calculate the mode impedance, attenuation factor and propagation constant. The mode extraction can be carried out using analytical or numerical approaches.
