We use GEMS to simulate a helical antenna with a dielectr support mounted on a PEC plate. We can simply tell GEMS the thickness of the helical wire and GEMS will automatically generate the adaptive mesh for the helical antenna problem. It seems a complex problem for FDTD based software, however, it is relatively simple work for GEMS software. In addition, we guide you how to import a SAT file to GEMS interface and generate a adaptive mesh.
