First story

A research company needs to use EM software to simulate an antenna array problem, they tried almost all popular EM software packages. Since each element inside the antenna array includes a dielectric kernel, MoM code can only simulate the array without dielectric kernel. FEM based software can simulate the dielectric kernel, but it can maximally simulate 5 elements. the result from other time domain technique based software is far away from the measurement data. GEMS Box can simulate up 60 elements regardless of presentation of dielectric kernel.

Second story

A research University needs to use EM software to simulate an antenna array with an antenna radome, they tried almost all popular EM software packages. Since the radome is thin and antenna array structure is complex, it is no way to use the FEM based software to simulate this problem. They used the MoM based software and work on this problem more than one year, but they could not get any meaningful result. GEMS Box installed with 64 GB memory finish the simulation in a reasonable time.

Third story

A company needs to use EM software to simulate an EMI problem, and they already have the FEM based software package. The FEM based software ran the problem for four days but could not get the convergent result. They used GEMS PC version to simulate the same problem and got the convergent result in less than 4 hours on a dual core PC platform.

  Fourth story

A vehicle company has a car model in DXF file format. Though many EM software companies claimed they can import DXF CAD file, but the company tried and none of them can import this car model into EM software interface directly. The company had to get help from another 3-D model software to convert the car model into different model that can be recognized by the EM software. GEMS can import this car model in DXF CAD file into GEMS interface directly without bothering any third party.

  Fifth story

A research organization used GEMS software to do research in the magnetic resonance imaging, the challenging issue is the dielectric constant in a local region is over 10,000 and is magnetic material. GEMS can simulate this problem and the simulation is good agreement with the measurement. GEMS can simulate a whole human body (more than 40 layers, and dispersive material) with 1 mm resolution.

  Sixth story

An 8-layer IBM chip includes many ground plane, dielectric layer, signal lines and many vias. GEMS Box can simulate both lossy and lossless signal lines using 32 GB memory. The simulation result is good agreement with the measurement data. If you directly use an FDTD based software to simulate this type of problem (dimension in the horizontal direction is much larger than that in the vertical direction), the simulation may be instable. GEMS uses a special technique and can guarantee a stable result.

  Seventh story

A research organization developed a feed of satellite antenna, which includes 144 Vivaldi antenna elements supported by dielectric plates, and needs to use EM software to simulate it. Since they already have the measurement for both reflection coefficient and far field pattern as well, we used GEMS software package to simulate this antenna feed. GEMS Box with 32 GB memory can easily simulate this problem and the simulation result is good agreement with the measurement data.

  Eighth story

A research institute needs to calculate the power transformation through a hole dogged on an infinite PEC plate and partially filled with PEC strips for a plane wave incidence. GEMS allows the users to use a plane wave to illustrate an infinite structure and calculate the transmitted power accurately through a slot. Both the transmitted power and impedance of the slot are good agreement with measurement data.

  Ninth story

GEMS is only EM software package that can be used to simulate a complete human body with up to 50 layers of tissues. The output will SAR or the communication between the antennas mounted on the human body. With 1 mm resolution, it only took 3 hour for GEMS Box system to complete the simulation.

  Tenth story

2COMU cooporated with Microsoft developed an open source parallel EM simulation software, OpenGEMS, which is only EM module in Microsoft Computer Cluster Server in the EM area. The OpenGEMS is downloadable since September 2008, and has been downloaded over 2000 times.

  Eleventh story

2COMU is cooperating with ARR to integrate GEMS into Microwave Office package as a 3-D time domain solver.

  Twelfth story

Prof. Allen Taflove of the Northwestern University has selected GEMS cluster version with 32 nodes to do EM simulation in the cancer research. Prof. Taflove is also applying the many thousands of nodes on IBM BlueGene/P from the Department of Energy to use GEMS cluster version to simulate the cancer problem.
